Bedrest?!? Rybolt's don't DO bedrest . . .

So, here I am, 5 days before my due date and a spike in my blood pressure yesterday, which is completely normal for some women as their body prepares for labor, has forced me into bedrest. I say forced into bedrest because anyone who knows my father, my sister, or myself knows that we Rybolt's don't spend a lot of time just sitting around. Remember, we're the family that went on vacation to Hawaii and instead of chilling on the beach we woke up before sunrise and biked 36 miles down Mt. Haleakala.

When the doctor first saw my blood pressure she asked if I had been taking it easy- I responded that I absolutely had. As I reflected on my day, however, I realized that in the morning I had woken up early, gone to Target and Linens n' Things, done laundry, then loaded the car with items we were donating to Goodwill. Ooopps. After the appointment I lay on the sofa all afternoon and evening. This morning when I had my blood pressure checked again and it was way down I finally had my proof that my version of relaxing simply wasn't relaxing enough.

So, I'm still on bedrest at least until my next appointment on Thursday. Rob asked if I wanted him to stay home with me today but I said I was fine. Afterall, with a whole day ahead of me I could do our taxes and then call the water company to finally end a dispute we've had with them over a leaky water tank. Rob gave me THE LOOK and said, "absolutely not" and then set me up with the TV, DVDs, books, a phone, healthy snacks, and my laptop all within easy reach.

So, now I'm on the sofa learning about the horrors of daytime television. In the background I'm watching the Maury Povich talk show (today's riveting topic being "I've Cheated on You More than 25 Times but Now I Want You Back").

Overall, I feel good, Rob's doing well, and as it has been for the last 39 weeks, the baby's doing great. The almost nonstop squirming, kicking, and punching (even now when the quarters are so cramped) leads me to believe that this baby has Rybolt genes and will never settle for simply laying on the sofa when life has so many other exciting adventures to offer.
