April Showers Bring May Flowers . . .

And if that's true, we'll be living in a botanical garden next month! Nor'easter 2007 was not kind to us last night.

In preparation for the storm, yesterday Ella and her dad went outside to check the gutters and downspouts. We felt well prepared for the rain.

Looking back at the concerned look on Ella's face as her mommy and daddy fixed a broken down-spout with pink duct-tape, it's clear that at least she knew we weren't as prepared as we thought.

When the power went out for about an hour, and we were "forced" to have pizza delivered rather than make veggie stirfry, we figured we had beaten the storm. Our joy was short-lived when at 7pm we discovered that water was flooding into our mudroom.

For the past 12 hours, Rob's been working like crazy to stop the flood. Initially, he was desperate to stop the flow so Ella and I would be allright before he had to leave bright and early on a business trip.

Very early this morning, however, flooded and closed roads and canceled flights kept him from being able to go at all, so he literally worked through the night digging out the backyard and working the wet-dry vac to death.

Ella wasn't exactly helpful with the water extraction, but her smiling face gave us strength and kept us going all night.
