The Potty

We had a big first on Sunday evening. Ella used the potty, successfully, for the first time! We've had the potty out for a few weeks and our standard line has been, "that's the potty. Ella will use the potty when she's ready."

Recently, we started saying, "when you use the potty for the first time, you get a toy." For a while, she started sitting on the potty fully dressed, and then naked. On Sunday evening she said, "Ella's gonna sit on the potty." She ran off and next thing we knew, she was saying, "Ella pee peed on the potty. She gets a toy." Fortunately, we had a toy to give her- some clothes for the new doll Grandma gave her.

It will probably be a while before Ella uses the potty regularly but this was a great first step! When she's really ready to use the potty all the time, we'll follow the advice of my cousin, Erin, and rely on Gaming Theory and Potty Training (see her blog to see how gaming theory applies to potty training: http://erinlouisemiller.blogspot.com/2008/04/gaming-theory-and-potty-training.html
